The Krups Convection Toaster Oven is available in three models: the FBC2, FBC4 and FBC5. All are 6-Slice Digital Convection Toaster Ovens equipped with a high-speed quartz heating system that manages the heat in the oven.
Each set of quartz heating element, both top and bottom, uses watts of power to ensure adequate radiant heat. Heat distribution is assisted by a special reflective crumb tray which Krups dubs the Expert Heat Reflector, which directs heat to all corners. The application of convection circulates heated air inside the oven, resulting in equal heat all around your food, and reduced cooking times. The defrost function uses the convection fan only and gradually defrosts food without producing hot spots. The Krups 6-slice toaster oven has temperature controls in 25 degree increments, ranging from 150-450 degrees. It also sports a digital timer that can track from 1 minute to 90 minutes, with an auto shut off after the desired time has been reached. It can also toast, with nine levels of browning with a timer. The Illuminated LCD control panel supports an easy to use control equipped with high quality soft touch buttons. The unit has a digital clock that is displayed when the LCD is not displaying cooking related information. The interior surfaces are easy to clean, non-stick and durable. This convection toaster oven is supplied with a non-stick bake pan, a broiling tray and heat resistant tongs. It has a large, 0.59 cubic foot capacity, offering more room than other 6-slice units on the market. It provides expert controlled cooking functions supplying six presets for easy, oneone-step cooking The unit comes with a 1-year warranty. Its dimensions are: (L x W x H) 20.5” x 14.75” x 10.375”
This countertop convection oven is quite heavy. it appears that the top, bottom and sides are well insulated, which should keep the outside surface temperatures somewhat cooler to the touch, relative to the heat inside the oven; however, the rear of the unit does not appear to be as insulated. the controls on the Krups are fairly straightforward to use. Temperature and time can be accessed independently and there are individual buttons for each mode of operation (convection, bake, toast, defrost). The backlit LCD works well. And you can’t miss the start/stop button which is brought to your attention by bright green LEDs. The form and function of the user interface is both contemporary and efficient, in true Krups fashion.
The convection oven performs as promised and is extremely convenient when you need to quickly reheat small portions of food. The unit is quick to warm up and with the convection fans active, reduces the amount of time it would normally take to perform the cooking process. Interestingly, the unit does not automatically turn off the heating elements in the fan when the oven’s door is opened. This is good in the sense that the unit does not lose much heat during those times when you decide to check on the progress of the cooking. Other units in the market today typically shut off their heating elements when the doors opened; while this is a good safety measure, you also have to understand that in so doing, the unit loses its thermal effectiveness and will have to begin the heating process again once the door has been closed.
The Krups convection toaster oven is a countertop appliance that is penned in clean industrial design; it sports a set of useful, simple controls; performs each function as promised; and employs significant heating elements along with a convection fan to enhance the countertop oven’s functionality.
On the downside, the Krups external surfaces do tend to run hot and is, in its current incarnation, not able to operate the bake function outside of the timer mode.
